Bran Nue Dae is a 2009 Australian musical comedy film directed by Rachel Perkins and written by Perkins and Reg Cribb. A feature film adaption of the 1990 stage musical Bran Nue Dae by Jimmi Chi, and loosely based on his life.
The film tells the story of the coming of age of an Aboriginal Australian teenager on a road trip in the late 1960s. Featuring a pleather of well known Australian actors and starring a relative unknown in Willie Johnson as Rocky McKenzie this film keeps your toes tapping and your mind ticking from start to end. Noted performances from Geoffrey Rush, Magda Szubanski, Missie Higgins, Dan Sultan, Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy and Ernie Dingo as tadpole make this a unique and quirky Aussie film packed with fun.
